Dr. (Miss) Pushpa Tamang is presently in the post of Director of Dept.
of Science & Technology & Climate Change (DST & CC), Govt.
of Sikkim. She obtained her M.Sc (Zoology) from North Eastern Hill
University, Shillong in 1981. She was awarded Ph.D by Gauwhati
University for her thesis titled”Systematics, Distribution and Ecology
of ichthyospecies of Sikkim and their bearing on the fish and fisheries of the state” in 1993. She executed important R&D projects
funded by DST, Govt of India - Studies on Medical Plants of Sikkim and
Application of Science and Technological inputs for development of
Chawang – Phamtam, North Sikkim as Model Village besides coordinating
various Science Popularisation and Technology Transfer Programmes for
skill development. She was also instrumental in organizing various
social mobilization trainings and capacity building programmes for SHGs,
Famers, NGOs and Panchayat Functionaries during her posting at State
Institute of Rural Development (SIRD). We must appreciate our one &
only Nana who is the only person from Sikkim to acquire Doctorate in
"Fishes of Sikkim".
